Gau Shala
Protect and serve our divine Gaumaa
"Cow is the source of progress and prosperity. In many ways it is superior to one’s mother."
Gaushala, a Sanskrit word (“Gau” means cow and “Shala” means a shelter place: Gau + Shala = shelter for cows), means the home for cows, calves and oxen.
The tactics of sheltering cows through Gaushala is actually being practiced since from the five thousand years or so, because its origin can be traced in the Vedic period when social customs and rules laid great emphasis on protection,
preservation, and development of cows for home, and oxen for agriculture-fields. During Vedic period, possession of herds of cows was the yardstick for measuring economic esteem and prosperity of an individual.
‘Rig Veda’ refers to cows as ‘Aghnya’ – one which must never be killed. ‘Yajur Veda’ states ‘Go matra Na Vidyate’ – there is no parallel to the cow in this world. ‘Atharva Veda’ considers cow as ‘Dhenu Sadanam Rayinam’ – the ‘house of prosperity.’
Become a Volunteer
"Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they’re worthless, but because they’re priceless."
“If our hopes of building a better and safer world are to become more than wishful thinking, we will need the engagement of volunteers more than ever.” — Kofi Annan
